Personally, I think parents spend way too much time being chauffeurs so their kids can be academically and extra-curricularly "occupied" all the time instead of having a big list of weekly chores to do. That'll keep them occupied and disciplined. I'm not saying no sports or after school activities, but allowing your kids to play more than one sport and doing all kinds of other activities is not overwhelming for them, but parents also. This modern way of thinking and constantly prepping our kids for the future and to be competitive at the cost of teaching them how to R&R a little also is over the top, and puts way too much pressure on our kids. It's not healthy for them even if they think they need to play all these sports and do school activities. Their brains aren't developed enough to balance all of that even though they fake it real good.
